PIPERONYL BUTOXIDE
5-{[2-(2-butoxyethoxy) ethoxy]methyl}-6- propyl-1,3- benzodioxole
1,3-Benzodioxole, 5-[[2-(2-butoxyethoxy) ethoxy]methyl]- 6-propyl
PIPERONYL BUTOXIDE is an insecticide synergist which inhibits the enzymes responsible for the degradation of the toxicant into the insect’s body. PIPERONYL BUTOXIDE inhibits Mixed Function Oxidases (MFOs), but it can also act on other enzymes such as esterases, thus deactivating the natural detoxification system of insects.
The use of PIPERONYL BUTOXIDE increases the efficacy of insecticides in terms of knock-down and killing properties, while at the same time reducing the amount of active ingredients needed in the formulation, resulting in an improvement of the cost/performance ratio. In fact, the recovery of knocked-down insects is one of the mechanisms through which resistance is generated along with misuse of insecticides. PIPERONYL BUTOXIDE is the best-known synergist and is used in combination with Refined Pyrethrum Concentrate and synthetic pyrethroids, carbamates and other classes of insecticides. Due to its unique mechanism of action, PIPERONYL BUTOXIDE has proven to be effective in preventing or overcoming resistance to insecticides.
Endura is the first company in the world to have developed an innovative and patented process for the production of PBO from catechol, thus solving the problem of dependency on natural sassafras oil, leading to an unlimited availability of PIPERONYL BUTOXIDE. Endura’s environmentally friendly policy has been awarded by numerous prestigious recognitions and its continuous commitment to sustainable development is one of the Company’s main goals.
Soluble in all common organic solvents.
Negligible solubility in water.
PIPERONYL BUTOXIDE is compatible and stable in combination with
most common active ingredients, solvents and co-formulants.
It can be easily formulated as oil or water based aerosols, mosquito
mats, liquid concentrates
(emulsifiable concentrates, macro and micro-emulsions) and their
corresponding RTUs and many more.
Among its many other advantages, PIPERONYL BUTOXIDE has good solvency properties towards synthetic pyrethroids, thus facilitating the preparation of insecticide formulations.
It is not subject to hydrolysis under normal conditions and is non-corrosive towards metals.
When kept in the original sealed drums and properly stored, PIPERONYL BUTOXIDE has a shelf life of at least 3 years from the manufacturing date. For prescribed handling, storage conditions, disposal and transport information, refer to the relevant Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
