A legacy in Chemistry:
The history of Endura is relatively recent, having been established in 1980, but its origins date back to the 1950s, when Antonio Tozzi first co-founded Sariaf, an agro-chemical business in Faenza, Italy.
Then, in 1958, he founded Industria Chimica Tozzi in Idice (BO), Italy, where the first Piperonyl Butoxide (PBO) was produced. Finally, in 1966, he established Chimosa in Pontecchio Marconi (BO), Italy.
From Chimosa, which was acquired by Ciba-Geigy in 1979, Endura was born, operating in the sector of active and synergistic ingredients for insecticides.
Chimosa produced, in addition to antioxidants and UV stabilizers for plastics, Piperonyl Butoxide (PBO), which is the main synergistic compound for insecticides.
Subsequently, in 1979, the production of Tetramethrin (TTM), a synthetic pyrethroid, was added. Both products, PBO and TTM, play a significant role in the insecticide industry, contributing to pest control in household, professional, and agricultural environments.
In 1999, the Endura plant at the Chemical Hub of Ravenna, Italy, was set up from greenfield to produce Piperonyl Butoxide (PBO), transitioning from natural to synthetic production, reducing deforestation, and improving capacity.
PIPERONYL BUTOXIDE (PBO) has remained our core business since 1980
Foundation of Endura and commencement of production:
of Piperonyl Butoxide (PBO) from sassafras oil through the traditional method. Production of Tetramethrin (TTM).
Ravenna plant set up:
innovative approach to production of Piperonyl Butoxide (PBO)*,shifting from natural to synthetic production, reducing deforestation and improving capacity.
*Synthetic PBO provides a more consistent and stable product compared to natural sources. This ensures reliable performance in various environmental conditions. Synthetic production also allows for better control over the purity and quality of PBO, reducing the risk of impurities that might be present in natural extracts. The synthetic process is greener as it avoids massive felling of trees.
Portfolio expansion:
new strategic partnerships for distribution of diversified product portfolio, academic and research collaborations with
universities and institute
Production of the first granular Tetramethrin (TTM).
New gas vent hybrid treatmentsystem
using liquid nitrogen cyro condensers, and a resin system patented by Mitsubishi for solvent recovery to avoid combustion.
Set up of Hydrochloric Acid Gasification system
for synthesis in smaller reactors, using less water thanks to Chloromethylation
synthesis carried out with gaseous hydrochloric acid instead of liquid.
of a MES (Manufacturing Execution System)
for integration of the plant control system DCS (Distributed Control System) with the company management software.
Activa acquisition:
acquisition of Activa to expand product portfolio offering
turnkey solutions for insecticides, pesticides and rodenticides.
Digital transform journey with new cloud ERP
Patent Pending for a PBO distillation column, which allows obtaining a product of higher purity
