By eliminating dependence on natural raw materials, it avoids the environmental pressure and variability associated with traditional sourcing. With regard to “bio-based” positioning in the market, it is important to consider that such claims are often difficult to effectively translate into end-use advantages within biocidal formulations. Regulatory frameworks limit the practical applicability of these claims, meaning that their value must be carefully evaluated in a real-world context.

In addition, it is important to highlight that Endura has been directly involved in supporting the global regulatory registration of PBO for decades. Furthermore, regulatory expectations are evolving, with increasing focus on impurity profiles and long-term substance classification. Endura has already proactively addressed this with PBO Prime, our highest-purity PBO grade, developed through a fully synthetic process and advanced patent-pending distillation technology. PBO Prime significantly reduces critical impurities and provides an exceptionally controlled chemical profile.

Endura has concluded that the impurity reduction in PBO Prime does not alter the active substance composition in a way that would require technical equivalence assessment.

In the current EU regulatory context, other PBO sources may still require technical equivalence evaluation, introducing an additional layer of uncertainty for formulators. In practical terms, PBO Prime offers:
